Not only travellers but also locals get used to calling this sweet dessert Bánh Pía (Pía Pastry) while actually, the original name of these cakes is  “Phía” which means “cake”. The Vietnamese, to avoid double words of cakes, then changed to call them “Pía”. No matter what it is called, nobody can deny that Pía Pastry is light, sweet and aromatic with full flavours of durian – a special tropical fruit of Mekong Delta region. Although ingredients needed to make a cake are very simple and easy to find namely flour, taro, green beans, durian and egg yolk, Pía Pastry in Soc Trang has a very unique flavor as well as shape, not like any other kinds of cake. The round-shaped cakes have white cover with egg and durian inside them and they are usually stamped red mark on the surface, which is the name of the the producer.
